Gaters Win Second in a Row on Bieler Walk Off

On Sunday, June 17, the Shaare Gaters and Mighty Ducks gathered at Terhune park for a CBYMCSL softball game. It was a must win game for the Gaters as they went into the game with just a 2-5 record.

The Gaters got going early with a four run first inning highlighted by a Jason Berg three-run homer. Shaare pitcher Benjy Burnat cruised along allowing two runs after four innings. After four innings the score was 4-2 Gaters. In the top of the fifth inning the ducks scored two runs off of Burnat. Shaare got one run back in the bottom half of the inning to regain their lead. In the sixth, the Mighty Ducks scored one unearned off relief pitcher Natan Cohen. Burnat returned in the seventh to allow one unearned run. Going into the bottom of the seventh (last inning) the Gaters were down one run. Jason Berg struck again with a game tying RBI to send it to extras! In the eighth both teams scored two runs to send it into the ninth inning. Burnat held off the Ducks in the ninth to give his Gaters one last chance. (That was going to be the last inning because of the time.)

In the bottom of the inning the Gaters aimed for the win. To start of the inning, Natan Cohen hit a high pop up to right field and the Mighty Ducks second baseman made a highlight reel diving catch on it for out number one. Then pitcher Benjy Burnat walked up to the plate. He lined a single to right field. The next batter was Dani Bieler. He smacked a double to left field to score Burnat from first and win the game! GO GATERS!
