Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest Calls for End to Cruel Border Policy

Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ joins 26 Jewish organizations and other religious groups in condemning the cruel and unconscionable policy of separating children from their parents seeking asylum in the United States. We are horrified by the heart-wrenching pictures of children being torn from the arms of their parents and put into cages, and of the credible reports of tent cities going up in 100-degree heat to accommodate hundreds of these children.

“The desperate plight of these families seeking refuge in the United States is all too familiar to the Jewish people who themselves struggled to escape persecution and genocide to reach the shores of America less than three generations ago,” said Scott Krieger, president of Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ. “While we support the laws of this country, the practice of separating parents and children seeking asylum is a cruel contradiction of the values we aspire to as Jews and as Americans. We call on our government to reverse this policy immediately and reunite the hundreds of parents and children currently awaiting their asylum hearings.”

Federation urges its members and the entire Greater MetroWest Jewish community to call their elected leaders, the attorney general, the Department of Homeland Security and the White House to protest.
