The op-ed by Jonathan Tobin (“Whatever Happened to the ADL,” July 19, 2018) is an important reminder to Jews about the hijacking of the ADL, one of the formerly preeminent Jewish organizations, by it’s new CEO, Jonathan (“I Will Register as a Muslim”) Greenblatt, former staffer in the Clinton and Obama administrations. He has turned the ADL into a strictly partisan Democratic mouthpiece, and true to his mission, he blames all the ills of the world on Trump and the far right, while ignoring the fierce and often violent hatred of the far left. By coincidence, at about the same time I received a letter of solicitation from Greenblatt on behalf of the ADL, which tries to show that the ADL fights anti-Semitism from both the right and left. However, note the difference in language used:

“The right goes after us” … is pretty strong language and connotes a strong attack. However, “The left takes issue with us”… is pretty mild and connotes a mere gentlemanly disagreement.

It’s easy to see which side they lean toward, and is an excellent example of the art of using subtleties in language to express bias without actually saying so.
