Summer Torah Learning Is Special at TABC

Although often students are known to run away from school in the summer, many TABC students were excited to participate in numerous educational school programs throughout summer vacation. Members of the TABC faculty were particularly pleased to see so many students and alumni attend a Thursday night mishmar program in August. The program was initiated by Head of School Rabbi Asher Yablok as an attempt to teach students about teshuva during the month of Elul, despite the fact that formal school year would only begin a few days before Rosh Hashana. In addition to a loud kol Torah in the Beit Midrash, students enjoyed reuniting with friends and rebbeim after returning from their respective summer programs. Cholent and kugel were served later in the evening in order to enhance the experience.

There was also wonderful digital learning going on throughout the summer. Initiated by two TABC juniors, a WhatsApp group was launched to the broader TABC community. Each day, a halacha shiur was posted by Rabbi Yoni Mandelstam allowing students, parents, alumni, and other members of the TABC community to stay connected to TABC Torah throughout the summer. Shiurim were also posted by Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yosef Adler, Head of School Rabbi Asher Yablok, Judaic Studies Principal Rabbi Ezra Wiener, Rabbi Chaim Jachter, Rabbi Ben Krinsky and Rabbi Raphi Mandelstam. TABC faculty were truly amazed by the high number of students who listened to the shiurim as well as the questions that were sent in over the course of the summer.

For the first time, TABC was proud to provide a Tisha B’Av program open to all high school boys in order to help students connect to the Kinnot. TABC rebbeim led the Kinnot with in-depth introductions with the intention to make them meaningful for the high school student. The students found the program to be inspiring and truly connected to Tisha B’Av on a deeper level due to their participation.
