Kaplen JCC Now Registering for Trip to Kykuit – The Rockefeller Estate

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is offering a special day trip to Kykuit, the Rockefeller estate in Sleepy Hollow, New York, on Thursday, October 18, from 10 am – 3 pm. The tour will include the main floor of the house, complete with its fine furnishings and art, as well as the subterranean art galleries, the inner garden and west terrace. Since it takes place at the height of the fall season, visitors will enjoy spectacular seasonal views of the Hudson River, as well at the outdoor sculpture collection and the mammoth coach barn with its collection of antique carriages and classic automobiles.

Kykuit was home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, beginning with the philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil. His business acumen made him, in his day, the richest man in America. Now a 40-room historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, this extraordinary landmark has been continuously and meticulously maintained for more than 100 years. Kykuit, derived from the Dutch word Kijkuit meaning “lookout” sits on the highest point in Pocantico Hills, overlooking the Hudson River and offering a view of the New York City skyline 25 miles to the south.

Trip includes bus to and from the JCC, house admission and docent-led tour. Cost is $65 for JCC members/$80 public. For more information, call 201-408-1496.
