JKHA middle school launched a new initiative, the Bat Mitzvah Dvar Torah Program. Working closely with their Judaic studies teacher, all sixth grade girls will have the opportunity to deliver a dvar Torah to all sixth grade students after davening on Tuesdays or Wednesdays in honor of their bat mitzvahs. Students may choose to work on a new dvar Torah to deliver to their classmates or they may choose to excerpt an existing portion of a dvar Torah they may have already written in preparation for their bat mitzvahs. Their Judaic studies teacher will help the sixth graders write and flesh out a concept for their speech, while their humanities teachers will work on public speaking techniques and strategies in the sixth grade advisory sessions to help set students up for success as they prepare for this exciting moment. The family may choose to sponsor breakfast in the morning for the entire grade as well a celebratory collation.
