(Courtesy of NORPAC) On Sunday evening, Miriam and Ezra Lightman hosted a NORPAC event in Teaneck for Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY).
Nita Lowey is currently serving her 15th term in Congress, representing parts of Westchester and Rockland counties. She was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1988 and served in the Democratic Leadership in 2001 and 2002 as the first woman and the first New Yorker to chair the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She is also the first woman to lead either party on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.
During the event, Lowey was asked if she had concerns about the stance on Israel of newer Democratic members being elected to Congress. She stated that a coalition of members in her party are working together to help educate these newly elected legislators on U.S.-Israel relations. She stated that even with members who are less supportive of Israel, having citizen advocates come to their offices makes a significant impact on pro-Israel causes in Congress.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey won her Primary and will be up for re-election this November.
