Yeshivat Noam Third Graders Study Chromatography

In Morah Yonina Ciner’s science class, Yeshivat Noam third graders have kick started their science unit on molecules! Students are learning about chlorophyll and hidden pigment molecules in leaves that cause them to change colors in autumn. In order to prove this, they practiced a technique called chromatography that let them actually see the microscopic marker pigment separate based on their size. As the pigments ran up the paper, they were shocked to discover that some of the markers have hidden colors inside of them that they don’t see when they color. Stay tuned as third grade scientists use this technique to prove that green leaves have many hidden pigments within them as well!
