Bruriah Juniors Hold Challah Bake

Bruriah’s juniors joined the world-wide Shabbos Project effort and held a challah bake of its own. The juniors were guided by their grade coordinator, Amy Tropp, and a committee of juniors who represented the entire grade. The student committee was comprised of two students from each of homeroom class, who met extensively in the weeks leading up to the program to plan the event, share innovative ideas about the challah bake, and implement those ideas. The students on the committee are Kinneret Adler, Racheli Finkelstein, Aliza Gruenfeld, Kayla Miodownik, Jamie Levy, Atara Pietruszka, Bella Weiner and Ateret Witty. Each student was given a BHS challah bake apron and her own bowl of ingredients to make her challah dough. While the students were waiting for their dough to rise, they were treated to an inspiring and humorous presentation by Toba Shifrin. Shifrin is a sought after speaker and member of the administration at Camp Sternberg. Using this challah bake and the occasion of the Shabbos Project as an impetus, Shifrin gave practical examples of how we can all upgrade our Shabbos observance even within the parameters of what we are already doing. Each student left the challah bake with two challahs, one to keep and one to give away. It was inspiring to hear who students had chosen as recipients of their challahs.
