The Moriah second graders are active participants in the school wide anti-bullying initiative. They were enthralled last week by the live presentation of the Power of One. Every second grader will add their name agreeing to the Power of One creed. They have also started reading the book “Pinky and Rex and the Bully,” by James Howe. They will be doing various activities based on this book to concretize these lessons and practice scenarios that could come up in the classroom community and on the playground. In addition, grammar and language arts activities will incorporate the positive language and concepts that are in this unit. The children are having wonderful discussions during daily meetings regarding friendly upstanding behavior. Teachers are so proud of the thoughtful journal entries that the students shared on how to be a good friend. Moriah hopes this unit will have an everlasting effect on the students behavior.
