In connection with parshat Vayeira, all of JKHA celebrated the mitzvah of hachnasat orchim together. Each middle school grade was partnered with a lower school grade. The program began with students learning texts about the mitzvah together in small groups, with the older grades leading the learning for the younger grades.
“Avraham” and “Sarah” (a disguised JKHA Assistant Principal Rabbi Srolovitz and JKHA Middle School Assistant Principal Danielle Goldstein) then welcomed students into their tents for a variety of activities. Students went through a round robin representing different aspects of togetherness and community including bringing community together at meaningful times, creating community and coming closer to Hashem together.
Activities at each station included making Shabbat kits for Jewish patients in area hospitals, reviewing important laws of brachot through a creative bracha bingo and collaborating together about what makes Shabbat meaningful. The programs were in conjunction with the Shabbat Project that took place around the world that Shabbat, uniting everyone together.
The program also served as part of the school’s ongoing theme for the year to “Remember the Past, Live the Present, Look to the Future—Be The Link!”
