He’Atid Fifth Graders Explore Totem Poles

As part of their studies of Native American culture, fifth graders at Yeshivat He’Atid designed and built their own totem poles. Each level of the pole represents either a family member, the memory of a lost loved one or a welcome message. Students chose the purpose for each level and an animal to represent that person or welcome message. Finally, students described their poles in writing and presented their work to their classmates.
