Fair Lawn Catholic Community Stands With Us

Editor’s note: The following was shared with us by the rabbinic staff at Congregation Shomrei Torah, who were touched that neighbors in Fair Lawn, from the Catholic community, reached out to them after the tragedy in Pittsburgh.

Dear Rabbi Yudin, Rabbi Markowitz and the Congregation of Shomrei Torah,

My wife and I (and our three children) have lived on —— Avenue in Fair Lawn for the past four years. We find it a great blessing to live across the street from our parish of St. ——. Our faith has been instrumental in our lives. On Saturdays, we pass your synagogue and envy the number of strollers outside or the number of large families walking together either before or after your services. I have remarked to my wife on numerous occasions that our family share more in common as committed Catholics with our brothers and sisters in the Orthodox Community. Family and faith are important and we wish more Catholic families shared these values.

The horrible, unspeakable tragedy that happened in Pittsburgh weighs heavy on us. (How can people do such things? Or how to explain to our little kids what happened and why.) My reason for writing is to let you all know we love you and we pray for Israel and our Jewish brothers and sisters daily. I don’t know what else we can do to help, I don’t know what else there is to say, but I was compelled to send this email.

We will continue to pray!

God Bless.
