Bruriah Heads to Columbia for CSPA

This past week, Bruriah High School’s yearbook editors traveled to New York City, to participate in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s (CSPA) conference on education for literature, content creation and editing. Stepping onto campus was a transformative experience for the five high-school seniors. A completely new setting from high school, the Columbia campus was full of potential for growth and learning.

The day was full of sessions to choose from. The editors, Sheva Feldman, Lauryn Mermelstein, Mira Postelnek (editor-in-chief), Chana Eli Rhodes (editor-in-chief) and Lana Stern, selected which sessions to attend, a new experience that created a sense of confidence and is something to look forward to in the coming years. Each session was diverse in style and subject, whether there were slideshows, discussions or textual-based lectures. There was a lot to learn and each teacher contributed important information to the girls that would help immensely in their journalistic, design and editing abilities. “It was an amazing experience,” Rhodes commented. “I gained a lot of knowledge about the impact of visual and verbal content, which will give a lot of clarity and professionalism to our yearbook.” The convention was informative and relevant to journalism, as well as to what the college experience will be.

The Bruriah yearbook editors left the conference with certainty and high morale, ready to get to work on their final senior project: Yearbook 2019.
