RYNJ students are lighting up the darkness with their מצוות. Students discussed the tragedy in Pittsburgh with their rebbeim and morot (on a developmentally-appropriate level). With guidance and support from the psychology and guidance department, the classes spoke about anti-Semitism and processed how scary the news was for everyone. The teachers explained that even in the worst situation, we can create something positive if we are motivated by it to improve our own מצוות and מידות. Students pledged מעשים טובים to do in memory of the קדושים from Pittsburgh. They wrote their pledges on bright-colored Post-it notes and stuck them to black pieces of poster board, watching as the dark boards turned light.
