TABC had the special opportunity to welcome a new sefer Torah donated by the Annie and David Blumenthal family.
The whole school davened together in the beit knesset and the program started off with the privilege of listening to Rabbi Adler, rosh yeshiva. In his remarks, he mentioned that Chazal state, “Adam mashal l’sefer Torah,” a person is compared to a sefer Torah. It doesn’t state ‘tzaddik’ or ‘chassid’ but simply ‘adam.’ We translate ‘adam’ simply as a mentch, someone who has sterling character and cares about other people. He relayed that Edith and Ziggy Blumenthal, in whose memory the Torah was donated, truly lived their lives with those characteristics and deserved to be compared to a sefer Torah. Jacob Blumenthal, ‘19, spoke next, and he was able to describe and give a real appreciation of who his grandparents were. Then, all those gathered danced the Torah into its new home. The dancing was incredible and leibidik as the students fed off the TABC band’s contagious energy. The students were treated to a delicious breakfast spread to celebrate this special occasion. It was a wonderful, memorable and inspiring event.
