First grade had an amazing trip to the Society of Illustrators and Safra synagogue last week! The museum visit started with an interactive read-aloud. Then the students had the opportunity to practice their illustration skills as they worked on both individual and collaborative artwork reflecting the topics in the text. They spent time exploring the wide variety of illustrations on display, and they also read the picture books that feature these illustrations. The day concluded with a tour of the Safra synagogue. The students were taught about the history of the synagogue and its design, and the first graders also had the opportunity to see the Sephardic and Ashkenazic sifrei Torah.
