The heartwarming story of Sydney Jerome (“Teaneck Preteen Packs in the Mitzvot,” Jan. 17, 2019), who, for her bat mitzvah project, baked cookies to help needy families in Israel, gives some welcome hope for our future.

In these divisive and acrimonious times, millennials have abandoned the principles of John F. Kennedy, who so eloquently said, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” Instead, these self-proclaimed “liberal progressives” who are neither liberal nor progressive but are in fact dogmatic reactionaries who have regressed to the failed socialist agendas of the 1900s. These spoiled and self-centered malcontents always seem to be marching and demonstrating to demand cradle-to-grave benefits, which they claim is their God-given, moral, ethical, or any other right they can dream up, irrespective of whether they work for them or not. They have no desire to understand that every dollar that goes into their pocket is coming out of someone else’s who may have worked very hard for it. The thought of giving anything back to the country is not in their lexicon.

So keep up the good work, Sydney, and as you continue to grow, may you and your generation indeed serve as a beacon of light to show how responsible young men and women should really act.
