The Jewish Learning Experience kicked off the new year with a Tu B/Shevat seder held at the home of one of its volunteers in Teaneck. No matter what their background, every Jew was welcome to come learn about the holiday and partake in delicious fruit. For an hour and a half the attendees celebrated the New Year of the Trees. The excitement of people celebrating for the first time, or the 20th, was truly palpable. With almost 30 participants, and the seven fruits of Israel, a fun, social and educational experience was had by all. Rabbi Wexler gave a brief explanation before everyone ate each of the fruits, which added meaning to the event.
The JLE will be launching a “Prepare for Passover” class with Rabbi Wexler on Wednesday nights to learn about the relevant laws and customs and go through parts of the Haggadah together. He will also be running a “Hebrew for Beginners” class to prepare for the reading of the Haggadah. There is also a weekly Torah-portion class given by Rabbi Yasgur. Everyone is encouraged to attend, no Jewish/Hebrew background is necessary.
