Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School invites the community to attend its Annual Scholarship Fund Dinner to be held on Saturday evening, March 2, at 8:30 p.m. at Congregation Keter Torah.
This year’s Keter Shem Tov Award will be presented to Hon. Justin Brasch and Juli Smith Brasch of White Plains, New York. The couple shares a common belief in the importance of public service. Justin is an elected council member in the City of White Plains, chair of the city’s Youth Bureau, and has devoted over 30 years to public service. Juli is a commissioner of the White Plains Housing Authority, which provides the city’s public housing. Justin is partner at the Law Offices of Justin C. Brasch, and Juli is an attorney at Barclays. Juli has served as parent liaison for Ma’ayanot’s White Plains bus route and Justin is a member of the Capital Campaign Committee as he looks to the future of Ma’ayanot. The Brasches were the very first family to jump on board to make a pledge to the Capital Campaign. They are the proud parents of Ariel (Class of 2020), Leora (2022), and Caleb, a 7th grader at Westchester Day School. Ariel and Leora commute to Ma’ayanot from White Plains daily so that they can be, according to Justin, in an “inspiring and empowering Modern Orthodox environment.”
Dr. Robert and Ofra Wind of Teaneck will be presented with the Amudei Ma’ayanot Award. The Winds have been extremely generous with their time as volunteers for the school from the moment they joined the Ma’ayanot family. Robert has been an active member of the board of trustees since 2012. He has served as co-chair of the Security Committee as well as a member of the Open House Committee and past Annual Dinner Committees. Ofra has significantly impacted Ma’ayanot by serving on numerous committees including the Annual Dinner, Middle States Accreditation, Graduation, and Parent Ambassador Committees, in addition to serving as a Parent Council volunteer. She has participated on the parent panel at Ma’ayanot’s open house for many years to share her love of Ma’ayanot with prospective families. Robert is a dentist in Suffern, New York, and Ofra is a beloved kindergarten teacher at Yeshivat Noam. Robert and Ofra are the proud parents of Nati (Emily and grandson Koby), Rafi, Dani (Class of 2016) and Maya (2019).
Ma’ayanot will be honoring Tamar Appel, the school’s associate principal, with the Faculty Recognition Award. Since joining Ma’ayanot’s faculty in 2004, she has taught Hebrew, history, Jewish history, and Jewish philosophy, and prior to joining the administration served as the department chair of the history, Jewish history and Jewish philosophy departments. Appel is a master teacher and a skillful administrator whose leadership is suffused with educational vision, a deep commitment to collaboration, and investment in students’ personal and intellectual growth. She thinks creatively and broadly to continually develop new ways to enhance education at Ma’ayanot, and is a model of lifelong learning and open-mindedness to new perspectives. She is a trusted resource and mentor for teachers in all departments, supporting and facilitating each teacher’s professional experience and growth as an educator. Most of all, she embodies compassion and deep commitment to Ma’ayanot’s students, building relationships with students that continue to be a source of inspiration and strength to them well beyond their years at Ma’ayanot.
