On February 14, Academies @ GBDS hosted an Escape Room during the annual Curriculum Fair for kindergarten-eighth grade. The students and teachers in each grade worked together to design and create an Escape Room experience for their families. Once they were “locked” inside the classroom, parents and students needed to put their critical thinking and problem solving skills to work as they completed several escape challenges related to math, ELA, Hebrew and Judaic studies, science, social studies, physical education, music and art. Families collected stamps on their Escape Room passport after completing each challenge and then proceeded to the gym for the final puzzle. The head of school verified the passports and gave each family a puzzle piece which, once completed, revealed the school and event logo. The event was a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to escape together, solve puzzles, riddles and open locks while gaining a better understanding of the integrated curriculum offered at the school. The students enjoyed showing off their creativity and innovation and the parents kvelled over their hard work.
