Moriah Visits Benaroya Sephardic Center

Rabbi Kahane’s eighth grade Navi class is currently learning about Shlomo HaMelech’s construction of the first Beit Hamikdash. The students learned that all of the beautiful details that are described are not extraneous, but actually create the perfect atmosphere for kedusha and avodat Hashem. After discussing how the shuls we daven in are each a mikdash me’at—a miniature Beit Hamikdash, the students had the privilege of visiting the Benaroya Sephardic Center of Ahavath Torah to experience one the most magnificent shuls in the area. In light of their studies, they were able to appreciate the beautiful design more than ever before. The students also had the opportunity to hear from Raphael Benaroya who was personally involved in every aspect of the design of the building. He shared inspiring details about the construction process, how each aspect was designed and how the specific materials were selected. We are thankful to Benaroya for generously giving his time and for spearheading this experience as a commemoration of Chazan Yaakov Cohen, whose yahrzeit was last week and was a chazan par excellence who led the Benaroya Sephardic Center in their tefilot for many years.
