(Courtesy of Middlesex gemach) Shari and Michael Gordon of Highland Park started a Purim costume gemach 12 years ago. The costumes are from infant sizes to adults, plus many accessories. The gemach is housed at Congregation Ohav Emeth in Highland Park.
They started with just 50 donated costumes and have grown to offering over 1,000 costumes and accessories to the Central New Jersey families. They even have families coming in from Monsey, Brooklyn and Lakewood. All costumes are donated and all monies collected (suggested $5 donation per costume) are donated to the Ohav Emeth Youth Department. The gemach has been able to donate over $5,000 over the years.
Their main focus is providing costumes for Purim, but they have also provided costumes for school plays, special adult programs and camps for their theme days.
This year, the gemach will be open Sunday, March 3, and Sunday, March 10, both from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., and Wednesday night, March 13, from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m..
