Over 200 Attend Beth Din of America Seminar on Presidents Day

Lay people and attorneys participated in person and online at a seminar hosted by the Beth Din of America’s on President’s Day, listening to leading religious and legal scholars discuss and educate on matters relating to rabbinical court jurisprudence. Topics included the process and methods of the Beth Din of America in adjudicating commercial disputes; the role of lawyers in beth din dispute resolution, and legal issues surrounding halachic prenuptial agreements.

The program took place at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck and was live streamed on YUTorah.org. A similar event a day earlier in Cedarhurst welcomed an additional 270 people.

“We were thrilled with the response we received in both of these communities on a holiday weekend. The attentiveness and the questions from participants showed a true desire on that part of members of our community to learn more about how the Beth Din functions and how they can turn to us for assistance,” said Rabbi Shlomo Weissmann, Esq., Director of the Beth Din of America. “The event was an opportunity for us to teach people about the wide array of cases we handle, and the high level of sophistication with which cases are adjudicated at the Beth Din. Our dayanim include reputable talmidei chachamim, as well as lawyers and businessmen from leading schools and law firms and with varied business experience and expertise.”

Co-sponsors for the program included Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future, the Rabbinical Council of America and the Orthodox Union.
