Sixth graders had an amazing opportunity this week to explore the physics behind ultrasound machines with BPY parent, Dr. Maureen Nemetski. The sixth grade has been learning all about sound during their waves unit and it was eye opening for the students to see how sound waves are used to map the tissues inside of the body. Dr. Nemetski brought with her the newest technology in ultrasound imaging—a portable ultrasound device that connects directly to the iphone. Dr. Nemetski then conducted ultrasounds on the student themselves, giving each of them a glimpse of the muscles, lymph nodes, fat tissue, arteries and blood inside of their own bodies. BPY is so lucky to have such wonderful parents willing to take time out of their day to inspire students!
