Yavneh Academy gan daled’s latest artist study featured Rembrandt van Rijn. Rembrandt was a great artist who lived in Holland. Rembrandt painted many self-portraits and portraits of his family. His work was very realistic and looked almost like a photograph. Since there were no cameras in those days, many people came to Rembrandt to have their portraits painted. Rembrandt is most famous for his technique called “Chiaroscuro” where he used extreme contrast between light and shadows. In many of his paintings, his subjects are half in the dark and there is a bright glow on their faces. Sometimes the people in his pictures wore costumes. Yavneh’s students took the opportunity to paint themselves in their Purim costumes!
