(Courtesy of Jewish Federation of Northern NJ) The Jewish Federation’s iCAN Teen Leadership program is an elite group of high school students who come together to gain knowledge and confidence to tackle anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiment in the world today.
The highlight of the evening was an enlightening presentation from Hasbara Fellowships called “Answering the Toughest Questions About Israel in High School, College and Beyond.” The group discussed the challenges high school students are likely to experience when they arrive on college campuses, some of which have become polarized with pro- and anti-Israel messaging. Also discussed was the need to amplify the pro-Israel narrative and to remain vigilant when criticism of Israel by some groups crosses over to anti-Semitism. Finally, the teens learned about the resources students have on campus to help them work through any challenging scenarios that may occur.
