JKHA Combines Earth Science and Humanities for Interdisciplinary Learning

The JKHA sixth grade earth science curriculum has opened up interdisciplinary opportunities between science, language arts and the humanities as students connect with physical sciences, enhance their writing skills and connect their learning to their history unit. In earth science, students are busy writing about plate movements based on their learning from science projects they do in class. As a part of their earth science journey, students researched different animals that live in the deepest part of the ocean. Their research culminated in a presentation leading to learning from peers.

The students learned about Mt. Vesuvius in both science and humanities classes. While the humanities class focuses on how people were affected and the history behind Mt. Vesuvius, the science class focused on the reason for fossilization and the connection between fossilization and the chemistry behind it.
