TABC Doubly Victorious in College Bowl

The TABC Storm College Bowl team took home JV and varsity championships on Thursday, defeating Rambam Mesivta and The Frisch School, respectively, at The Jewish Education Project’s annual College Bowl championship. Both teams were led by Manny “the goat” Landau, whose cool and experienced hand was invaluable in guiding TABC to the twin victories.

TABC’s JV team, which includes juniors Ephraim HelfgotMikey Schwartz, Sam Weinberg, Shai Rosenberg and sophomores Yehuda Mazin, Ezriel Vinar and Boaz Kapitnaker, were under pressure to carry on the JV streak of six undefeated seasons. They were up to the challenge, pulling through in two especially tight games against HAFTR and Rambam, to get the win.

Varsity, playing without captain and league MVP Nathanael Vinar—who is in Israel competing at Chidon HaTanach—was nervous at the outset but proved worthy and squeaked by Frisch in nail-biting championship game for the ages. Comprised of seniors Avraham Kahan and Aharon Goldstein and juniors Yoni “switch-hitter” Weinreich and Daniel Rothstein, the varsity team pointed to TABC’s strong culture of independent learning as a decisive factor in both wins.

Over the past season, students from modern orthodox day schools in New York and New Jersey have competed against each other in a series of academic competitions. Students have tested their knowledge in fields such as geography, history, science, math, and technology. The following schools participated in the varsity and junior varsity College Bowl competitions at The Jewish Education Project: Torah Academy of Bergen County, The Frisch School, Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway, DRS-Hebrew Academy of Long Beach, Rambam Mesivta, Yeshivah of Flatbush and SAR High School.
