JEC High School Students Win Technion Award at CIJE Innovation Day

On Sunday, the JEC STEM department was at it again, winning yet another award, recognizing its cutting edge educational program. The winning project, created by sophomore Ari Lazarus, Chaim Landa and Chanania Kraemer, featured a new, innovative braking system without all the standard wires and cumbersome mechanisms. While a typical bike brake involves cables that run from the break to a handle, this system removes that cable allowing it to be installed on multiple devices. Skateboards, drift skates, walkers, baby strollers, carts and conveyor belts are only some of the items that will utilize this state-of-the-art technology. The break itself was designed, 3D printed and after prototyping, was sent to a metalsmith for custom casting. The coolest part—a simple dial on a glove signals the break to come to a full or gradual stop.
