Camp Shalom has developed a reputation as a premiere day camp that provides a safe, fun-filled, Torah environment, along with giving each child the individual attention they deserve. Earlier this year, Camp Shalom announced the relocation of its campus to the Ben Franklin Middle School in Teaneck, adding to the convenience of the Camp Shalom experience. For the summer of 2019, Camp Shalom is excited to welcome Coach Steve Gutlove as director of Camp Shalom Sportstar Select. Sportstar Select will be an extended day program for campers who would like an extra hour of basketball instruction and practice.
Coach Gutlove sat down with the Jewish Link of New Jersey to discuss the program in greater detail.
Coach Gutlove, tell me a little more about the thinking behind Sportstar Select at Camp Shalom?
I have had the pleasure of coaching hundreds of kids at the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey over the past 12 years and observed thousands more as commissioner of the Mitch Gross Basketball League. I have observed firsthand the correlation between confidence on the court and this confidence translating to overall success.
Sounds like a great program. Is it open to both boys and girls? What ages and skill levels?
The clinics will be geared to both boys and girls ages 7 to 11. After a 15 minute clinic the group will be divided by skill level and gender to drill and practice these skills.
This program will be a great fit for all skill levels, since we will be able to divide the campers based on skill level so we all will gain from the experience. All who participate will be given the basic building blocks to feel like a sportstar.
How will the program differ week to week?
Each week we will focus on different skills with guest coaches who specialize in these skills.
Sportstar Select will be offering a pre-Shavuot/carpool discount of $75 per week for Camp Shalom campers, who sign up by Shavuot (June 7) with two or more campers.
