Sarah Abenaim (Letter, “Another Modest Proposal,” June 6, 2019) completely misses the point about leaving out women’s pictures in some Jewish publications. While it is true that the sleazy tabloids that try to come off as reputable papers often show pictures that are disturbing, the issue here is not about respecting the religious view of those papers that do not print women’s pictures. Rather, it is about the devaluation of women.

If a couple is being honored by a school or a shul and only the husband’s headshot appears, it is an insult to women. A headshot of the wife next to him is immodest? There is a happy medium between the two ends of the spectrum.

At some point these magazines are going to have to deal with the fact that there will be a woman president someday, and writing articles about her, without showing her picture, borders on the ridiculous.

I personally will not read any of these publications because of their policy of not showing women’s pictures. I find it degrading and reprehensible. This also has nothing to do with religion; it has to do with common sense.
