Leave Teachers Alone—It’s Summer

High school principals and admission counselors and school boards—please take note!

Some Jewish high schools have crossed the line in their competition for students. The latest method is to send staff to invade (visit) sleepaway camps.

Teachers work very hard for 10 months a year. Some do professional developments over the summer, some revise curriculum or update systems, some work in camps. No teaching staff or administrators should be asked to travel to any camp, to talk to kids on vacation about school.

Getting one’s picture in the Jewish paper or the camp online newsletter does not contribute to increased enrollment. Parents are the ones who pay the bills, who make the decision in school selection for their children; they don’t decide in the summer, based on who gave shiur in their children’s camps.

Let’s limit the school public relations and competition to the other 10 months of the year.
