In this age when the Holocaust seems to be receding from the memories of both Jewish students and adults, it is refreshing to see a campus that supports a Holocaust study program.

It is inconceivable that barely 70 years after the Shoah, not only are there still many gentile Holocaust deniers of all stripes, but many Jews are now starting to use the Holocaust as a prop to score cheap political points. As seen recently in the JLNJ columns and letters, trivialization of the Holocaust is taking place by conflating temporary immigrant detention centers on America’s southern border with Nazi concentration camps, which were one step, along with ghettos, on the way to death camps.

We now see that a Holocaust “expert,” Deborah Dwork, is a visiting scholar at the Bildner Center for Jewish Life at Rutgers University, where among other issues she is troubled by human rights abuses afflicted by the U.S. and others on today’s asylum seekers. She claims these are similar to those that occurred in the 1930s and 1940s. Again we see the monstrous slaughter of Jews during the Holocaust as somehow being equated with human rights abuses of today’s asylum seekers. The unimaginable wholesale slaughter of millions of Jewish men, women and babies is now reduced to a level of a human rights abuse issue.

There is an expression, “Once is a coincidence, twice is a pattern.” If the trivialization of the Holocaust by leftist revisionists is becoming a pattern for scoring cheap political points, the final step, as inconceivable as it may sound, may well be the morphing of the slogan “Never Again” into a new one, “Never Was.”
