RKYHS seniors had the opportunity to watch a screening of the award winning documentary “Remembering: The Maurits Kiek Story.” The film, produced and directed by alumni parent Cheryl Halpern, tells the story of one man’s courage to return to Nazi-occupied Europe where a reward for his capture “dead or alive” was posted, and serve as a covert MI-9 agent and save lives.
Kiek’s unwavering determination to stand up, in the face of overwhelming odds, and fight the perpetrators of evil was acknowledged in the capital of the Netherlands, Den Haag, The Hague, in 2015.
Halpern’s inspiring remarks after the screening, the film and Kiek’s heroism, left students with the lasting message to take initiative and respond whenever they encounter anti-Semitism and injustice.
