Thursday night was a special one at the Weather Center as TABC honored the great Norm Blumenthal in recognition of his years of service to the TABC community as both the JV hockey and baseball coach. In between a doubleheader hockey game against SAR, the crowd saluted Coach Norm and last season’s baseball championship banner was unveiled. Cotton candy and popcorn were on hand as fans and players alike reminisced about their years playing under Coach Norm. The athletics department presented Norm with a “Coach Norm” TABC jersey. Even though he is officially retired from coaching, Norm continues to be a presence at games and involved with Storm athletics. TABC wishes Coach Norm much continued success and looks forward to celebrating many more wins!

During the hockey portion of the evening, TABC’s JV team squandered a 3-1 lead in the third period and ultimately had to settle for a tie against SAR, but the varsity team emerged victorious 5-2, an especially sweet victory after last month’s heartbreaking loss to SAR in the Bronx. SAR got off to a quick start with a 1-0 lead and it looked like the Storm would be in for a rough night. But Zach Levy equalized a few moments later and the Storm and Sting were deadlocked after one. Going into the second period, things started to get really chippy and the Storm got plenty of power play opportunities. On the first man advantage, Baruch Shmukler-Karpov rifled a shot into the top shelf to give the Storm its first lead, Jake Rothenberg ‘20 made it 3-1 off another man advantage, and Levy added a second goal to give the Storm a commanding 4-1 lead. SAR got one goal back right before the second intermission to give them some hope before heading into the third, but Natan Rifkind put the game out of reach for good in what was the Sting’s first loss of the season. The Storm is now 7-3 and will next host the Frisch Cougars on New Year’s Eve in a game that is not to be missed.
