(Courtesy of TABC) The TABC Storm basketball program had a great week of playoff basketball in Brooklyn. First, it was the JV team heading to Flatbush for a quarterfinal game. Always a tough place to win, the Storm jumped out to a nice first-half lead. But Flatbush did not go away of course and the lead was cut to just three in the fourth quarter. With some clutch shooting from guards Harry Orlinsky and Eli Saks down the stretch, the Storm held on for the victory. Yis Kaminetzky led the team with 16 points and was great all night for the team. Going into a hostile gym and loud fan base was a challenge for the young team and certainly will prepare them for the rest of their playoff run.
The following night the TABC varsity basketball team traveled to Brooklyn for a much-anticipated matchup against Magen David. Magen David, the elite team of the league for the last few years now, is almost an impossible place to win in the playoffs for any road team. You wouldn’t know that based on how this game started. Shot out of a cannon, TABC pounced on Magen David and had a double-digit lead in the first half. The lead ballooned to as high as 19 points! Magen David eventually cut it to just five. With the pressure high and Magen David faithful in a frenzy, the Storm pushed back and the lead grew back to double figures. Noam Kindelerer was the star of the night for TABC with 19 points off the bench, but this truly was a team effort. TABC got contributions from so many different players and their defensive intensity frustrated Magen David all night long. TABC left Brooklyn 2-0, with two huge wins in very difficult atmospheres. What a week!
