While I welcome the wonderful article about Dr. Shimshon Isseroff (“Chidon Honors Champion of Talmud Torah,” May 7, 2020), it must be stated that it barely captures the immense contribution he has made to 20th-century Jewish education in America. His pioneering work in standardizing congregational schools cannot be underestimated. His targilonim were used in everyday school prior to the mass availability of printed textbooks.
Following his work at the BJE he worked at YU helping young men get teaching positions. In fact, he interviewed me in 1965. I was fortunate to have had the privilege of working with him at The Educators Council of America and at The National Board of License.
Every Jewish school today is in his debt.
