SAR Varsity B-Ball Beats Kushner

November 14, 2013—In a back and forth game, the Sting took home a victory over Kushner, with a final score of 57-46.

The first quarter was a bit slow for SAR, but it still managed to keep the game close. In the second quarter, SAR put on a surge, taking an eight point lead into the half. The third quarter saw Kushner cut the lead, led by swing man Mordechai Weiss and sharpshooter Mathew Stadtmauer. However, The Sting came alive too, particularly in the post. Marcus had three fouls in the first half, but was able to produce in the second half. In addition, very smart ball movement, keyed by Jonas, certainly helped the Sting stall the clock and get good shots off.

In the fourth, Kushner went on a ferocious run and took a one point lead with about four and-a- half minutes left. Sammy Hyman, almost single-handily, took the lead right back, picking up a couple of and-1’s. The Sting closed out strong, and came away with a 57-46 win.

The Sting was led in scoring by Sammy Hyman, who had the highest scoring game in his varsity career, putting up 29 points, including 12-12 from the charity stripe. Marcus chipped in 11, all in the second half, and Wohlberg provided timely baskets as well. The Sting as a whole shot 20/21 from the line, or just over 95 percent!

The Sting is now 3-1 in regular season play, and takes on Hillel next week. The Sting Sports Update
