Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

The Bruriah Lightning entered their home opener against Ilan, hoping to continue their undefeated season. It was a physical back and forth game with many ties and lead changes. To the dismay of the home crowd, Ilan held on to its lead in the 4th quarter and beat Bruriah 30-27.

The Lightning, were led by the tight defense and scoring punch of Shoshana Rozenberg, Avigayil Wiener, Shayna Schwartz, Rachel Hershkowitz and Ilana Markowitz.

Looking to avenge their tough loss, the Bruriah Lightning hosted SKA Sonics in their next home game. It was intense game, SKA being 3-0 and Bruriah 1-1. The score was close throughout, with both teams trading points. Bruriah’s lock down defense was once again led by Shayna Rozensweig, Rachel Hershkowitz and Shayna Schwartz. On offense, everyone contributed, specifically Shayna Schwartz and Eliana Alter. When the final buzzer sounded, SKA walked away with a hard fought 31-27 victory.

Still trying to regain their winning ways, the Lightning next met a talented Shaare Torah squad.  Bruriah came out of the gates running, with a fast and efficient rotation on offense and tenacious ball pressure on defense. Bruriah took the lead early and didn’t look back. On offense they were led by Shayna Schwartz, Ilana Markowitz and Shayna Rozensweig. The defensive lockdown was spearheaded by Avigayil Wiener and her many steals that were converted into numerous points of off fast breaks.

Coach Rivkin was glad to see the rotation fall into place and to see the team work together. Bruriah, now 2-2, will next host Shalhevet.
