Yavneh Academy kicked off the Aleinu Safety Kid program with a presentation by Mrs. Elke Stein, MSW, LCSW and Director of JFS in Clifton. Mrs. Stein met with Yavneh parents during a special evening meeting to describe the safety program and explain the structure and goals of Aleinu. She emphasized the importance of the culturally sensitive program and encouraged parents to communicate with their children about this very important topic. Safety Kid, a video that presents real life situations designed to help children learn to make good choices, was also viewed by Yavneh parents at the presentation.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the same week, trained Aleinu presenters, including NYU Social Work interns Donna Muccio and Caity Ceppaglia under the directions of Mrs. Gayle Clachko and Yavneh Academy’s Director of Security, Officer Sal LaFerlita, visited all classes from Pre-K through grade 4. With the use of puppets, videos and grade appropriate discussions, they taught the children how they can keep themselves safe by following important safety rules.
