To My Parents
As I Leave for Israel
I’m taking a trip to a land far away
Where I’ll study Torah each night, every day
It’s the place where you’ve taught me that all Jews belong
You’ve taught me in prayer, and in deed, and in song
We pray every day that Mashiach will come
And gather us all in a Jewish kingdom
Now, I know what you’re thinking, you think I’m too young
You think I’m your baby, and see me among
The things that you treasure, and need to keep tightly bound
to your heart, with all of your might
I’m certain, however, that you must have known
That I would grow up, and, yes, leave this home
Which I love ‘cause you’ve made it a place I adore
And feel, oh, so comfortable. Who could want more?
But, I promise to you I’ll be careful and wary
I know you’re concerned and I know it is scary
I won’t take any chances, I’ll be watchful, alert
For you are the people, I never would hurt.
And I’ll call you each day so that you’ll hear my voice
And your heart will be calm with a quiet rejoice
And I will return in a fleeting year’s time
And hug both of you, for you’ll always be mine.
