The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize Emme Wallach as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The fifth grader at the Yeshivat Noam showed off her game this summer earning her a spot on the Junior Division All Star team at Hustle & Heart this summer. Earlier in the year, Emme’s MGBL team V&N Realty had an amazing run in the playoffs to lose a heartbreaker in the championship game. When asked about Emme, her MGBL coach and father told the Jewish Link, “Emme gives 110% effort on the court. She helps make the players she plays with better and win or lose she always behaves like a mensch.”
Emme, congratulations on making the All Star team. Who is your role model and why?
My parents are my role models. My dad is my role model because he taught me how to play basketball, he coaches me and I learn cool moves from him. My mom is my role model because she encourages me to be the best I can be and never give up!
What is your favorite sport?
My favorite sport is basketball because it’s fun and I enjoy competition with my friends. (Shout out to my basketball bestie Libby Fischer!)
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
My greatest sports accomplishment was winning the one on one, the three on three and the five on five basketball championship games this summer at Hustle & Heart.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My favorite athlete is Steph Curry because he is an amazing shooter and point guard.
What is your pregame routine?
My pregame routine is taking layups and taking outside shots.
What is your earliest sports memory?
My earliest sports memory was winning my first MGBL championship in second grade and getting the MVP award.
What is your weirdest sports memory?
My weirdest sports memory is bumping into a ref on a fast break.
What is your favorite sports memory?
My favorite sports memory is meeting Ryan Turrel at a YU game and taking a selfie with him.:)
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
When I’m not playing sports I love hanging out with my friends and making TikToks with them.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
The best thing about being a Sportstar is being in the Jewish Link!!!
