The word “Ma’ayanot” is first mentioned in the Torah in Bereishit, Parshat Noach 7:11, “On the second month, on the 17th day of the month, on that day all the fountains (ma’ayanot) of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky burst open.” But why do we celebrate the day the flood gates were open? Because on that day Hashem decided to wipe the world clean in order to make room for chesed and mitzvot, says Raizel Littwin (‘21). To celebrate, on 17 of Cheshvan, Ma’ayanot students were treated to 7-Eleven slurpees before their community time. Students also held a pep rally for the Rapids basketball and volleyball champion teams of spring 2020. Students then went back to their classes for a school-wide Kahoot game filled with Ma’ayanot trivia. Yom Ma’ayanot is a great way to celebrate what is uniquely Ma’ayanot—school camaraderie, pride and achdut.
