Agudath Sholom Sponsors ‘Chanukah Torah Across New England’

(Courtesy of Agudath Sholom) Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford, Conn., will co-host a series of shiurim titled “Chanukah Torah Across New England.” The series will meet at 8 p.m. on Mondays beginning Nov. 16 and continue through Dec. 14.

The program will feature a class from a different pulpit rabbi in the broader New England area. Rabbi Moshe Kurtz, Agudath Sholom’s new assistant rabbi who is spearheading this program, remarked, “this is an opportunity to bring our distant communities together and unite under the light of Torah, even as the days have begun to turn darker.”

“The program will kick off with Legacy of the Maccabim: Should Courage Be Encouraged?” with Rabbi Noah Cheses of the Young Israel of Sharon, Mass. On Nov. 23, Rabbi Kurtz will discuss “Jewish Approaches to Guns, Violence, and Weaponry.” On Nov. 30, Rabbi Dr. Benjamin J. Samuels of Congregation Shaarei Tefillah in Newton, Mass., will give a presentation on “How Many Chanukah Lights? The Development of Halakhic Practice in Light of Talmudic Interpretation, Sociology, Climate, and Technology.”

On Dec. 7, Rabbi Tuvia Brander of the Young Israel of West Hartford, Conn., will discuss“Unraveling the Mysteries of Maoz Tzur.” The series will culminate on Dec. 14 with “We Are All Kohanim: The Mystery and Message of Lights in the Temple and on Chanukah,” presented by Rabbi Daniel Cohen, senior rabbi of Congregation Agudath Sholom. “We are grateful to all of the rabbis for their time and wisdom. The virtual program reflects the reality of our shared vision of the value of vibrancy of Torah in our communities.”

In addition to this series, Agudath Sholom is hosting two other scholar-in-residence programs featuring Rabbi Dr. Moshe D. Tendler on Nov. and, later, Rabbi Menachem Leibtag.

All are welcome to attend.. For further information and the Zoom link, contact Rabbi Kurtz at [email protected].
