Gan Keshet has spent the last two weeks studying the different water sources, discovering why the oceans are salty—and why the Dead Sea and Great Salt Lake are even saltier—and learning about the properties of salt. They’ve experimented and seen that salt makes objects buoyant, seen salt crystals growing, observed salt under a microscope, prepared salt dough, painted with salt and seen how salt lowers the freezing point of water. They even had the chance to make delicious pickles. What better way to end the unit than to make ice cream in a bag? What a yummy STEM activity for a freezing cold day!
