Program will feature US Special Envoy Elan S. Carr.

(Courtesy of FIDF) Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) New Jersey Chapter, together with several Jewish day schools in New Jersey, will hold a virtual candle-lighting ceremony, an “Evening of Celebration and Appreciation,” on the eighth night of Chanukah, Thursday, December 17 at 7 p.m.

The New Jersey Jewish day schools participating in the event will include Solomon Schechter School of Bergen County; Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy; Golda Och Academy; The Moriah School; The Hebrew Academy of Marlboro; Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva; and Yavneh Academy.

The event will feature Elan S. Carr, who serves as the U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism. Appointed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeoin 2019, Carr is an American attorney who is responsible for directing U.S. policies and projects aimed at countering anti-Semitism throughout the world.

FIDF national board member and co-founder of the FIDF New Jersey chapter Sammy Bar-Or will lead the candle-lighting ceremony and light the Shamash and first candles. There will be a holiday greeting from IDF Lone Soldier Cpl. Haley Nagelberg from East Brunswick. Journalist and television anchor Tal Heinrich will be the moderator for the evening.

“This very special evening will bring our community together to show appreciation to our heroes, the soldiers of the IDF, as well as members of the New Jersey community who so generously support their wellbeing needs in 2020, while at the same time celebrating the miracle of Chanukah,” said FIDF New Jersey Director Howard Gases.
