Hackensack Chabad Partners With Muslim Biz Owner for Thanksgiving

(Courtesy of Chabad of Hackensack) Dozens of kosher turkeys were distributed for Thanksgiving by Chabad of Hackensack.

“As COVID-19 numbers continue to spike, many individuals and families lost their jobs. Some of them couldn’t even afford a turkey for Thanksgiving. At Chabad of Hackenack, we wanted to provide them with their needs—and the feeling that someone is thinking about them,” said Rabbi Mendy Kaminker of Chabad of Hackenack.

Mohammad Mahmoud, a local business owner, had contributed towards this effort. He reached out to Chabad and offered to sponsor turkeys for Thanksgiving.

In a Facebook post, Rabbi Mendy Kaminker shared the following:

“This morning I met Mr. Mahmoud, a Palestinian Muslim and a business owner in Hackensack. He generously provided kosher turkeys for our kosher turkey giveaway at Chabad Hackensack…I told him: ‘I am so proud to live in a community where we can come together to do good. We can come from different backgrounds and different religions, but we all have one thing in common: we are all created by God and we are here to do good!’”

The kosher turkey giveaway took place the day before Thanksgiving.
