(Courtesy of Drisha) The Drisha Institute for Jewish Education is running a two-week Winter Zman on “Not by Bread Alone: Jewish Perspectives on Food” from December 28 through January 7. The Drisha Winter Zman is open to adults of all ages: college students, graduate and rabbinical students and professionals. Whether you have spent many years studying Torah or are trying out yeshiva for the first time, Winter Zman will provide challenging and enriching opportunities for students of all backgrounds. You will also have a chance to study with senior members of Drisha’s faculty, including Rabbi David Silber, Dr. Shana Strauch Schick, Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Zuckier, and Rabbanit Leah Sarna. Drisha is committed to deep engagement with Torah and we are excited to bring students together from across the U.S. and beyond for this unique learning opportunity.
We will be studying the sixth perek of Masechet Brachot (Keitzad Mevarkhin) in the mornings and offering a variety of food-themed courses in the afternoons. Our evening series will be taught by educators and Jewish professionals in the food industry on the topics of “Sourcing Food: Plants, Animals and the Jews Who Tend Them” and “Scarcity & Plenty: Food Policy and Distribution in Halachah and in America.” Sunday, January 3, will be a Yom Iyyun dedicated to food ethics. These sessions will give you an exciting opportunity to think about the role of food in our religious lives, our responsibility toward those experiencing hunger, Jewish perspectives on food production and more. You can choose whether to sign up for the entire series, one week-long seminar or individual sessions. For more information, please visit https://drisha.org/class/winter-zman/.
