Young Israel of East Brunswick Seeks New Rabbi

The Young Israel of East Brunswick (YIEB), a 45-year-old Modern Orthodox synagogue in Central New Jersey, is searching for an exceptional rabbi to assume the role of moreh d’asrah of the community. Rabbi Ephraim Unterman, the shul’s full-time rabbi since 2016, has resigned to pursue other interests.

Known for their warm and welcoming atmosphere, YIEB has grown to a community of over 220 member families. The men and women of the community have strong secular and Judaic educational backgrounds. YIEB is the only Orthodox synagogue in East Brunswick, so the membership reflects a broad range of religious backgrounds and practices.

East Brunswick is a picturesque suburban neighborhood located approximately one hour from New York City and Philadelphia. YIEB’s spacious and modern shul houses a social hall and mikvah, and shul members maintain a community eruv.

The ideal candidate should be a charismatic Orthodox rabbi with enthusiasm for serving a community with serious potential for growth. YIEB seeks a rabbi who is a talmid chacham, with a depth of both Torah learning and secular knowledge, who is approachable and is comfortable and confident to serve as the final Halachic authority for the synagogue. In addition to semicha, the shul would prefer a candidate with advanced degrees or specialized training.

“We encourage rabbis from far and wide to apply for the position and come join our community,” said Andrew Gross, YIEB president. “We look forward to conducting a thorough search for our next religious leader.”
